Cuneiform is a writing system used in Ancient Mesopotamia, West Asia. In the 3rd and early 2nd millennium BCE, the isolate language Sumerian was the written in cuneiform. In the late 2nd millennium the Semitic languages became predominant, first the Akkadian, later Aramaean language.
