mulNaṣrapu (𒀯𒈾𒊍𒊏𒁍) is an ancient Mesopotamian asterism, a group of stars in the constellation Perseus [Gössmann[1] 296; AHw[2], 757a; CAD[3] N/1, 51a]. It is a ziqpu-star, between the ŠU.GI (Old Man) and the GAM3 (Crook), but the sense of the name if it is in regard to the shape of the asterism is uncertain. The number of stars in this asterism is alternatively given as 6 or 2 (see Fincke-Horowitz 2017: ??PAGE N NEEDED?? ). We would follow the total of 6 which appears in the most reliable source (VAT 16436), and so suggest the cluster of mostly 4th magnitude stars behind the Old Man in the direction of the Crook.

These texts preserve the information that mulNaṣrapu is 10°RA "behind" (east of) the bright star in Perseus (Mirfak). |
|
These texts add the information that the asterism is not a single star but consists of at least two, perhaps six stars.
In the area behind Mirfak, there is a group of stars around the star c Per, all between 4 and 5 mag bright. |
