The zodiac is a term for the area around the ecliptic, plusminus 5°, where the Moon, the Sun, and the planets are visible. Constellations in the zodiac cover or touch this area.

Note that historical definitions of the region might vary: for instance, the Asian concepts of lunar mansions, lunar stations and nakshatras are geometrical divisions of the sky whose determinative stars and constellations may be located outside the area of the strip described above.
