We use the category "modern" for the star names and constellations that have been invented in the recent ~400 years, i.e. in the epochs that historians classify as "early modern" or "modern". It includes the early modern constellations that became obsolete with the IAU-definitions of the 1920s, and the inventions of star names in astrophysics. So, also the star names that have been applied to stars by IAU-WGSN since 2016 with approved spellings, see "living" Catalog of Star Names.
