GILIM.MA
mulGILIM
A Sumerian asterism name equated with mulAB.SÍN, 'The Furrow' in the Great Star List, in this context perhaps a name for Venus (see entry in our dictionary sub ABSIN???). The same sign with its most common sense of the verb 'parāku', 'to lie across,' occurs in the context of other planets and the Moon as well (CAD P 154). This sense of 'parāku' in the context of the 'The Furrow'-asterism most likely derives for the meaning ''to furrow or cross-plow a field' (CAD P 158).
Neither of the readings b elow is attested in CAD or AHw - best sense would be the transbeam / blocker = GILIM, GIB GILIB = paraku.
Needs to be complete re-examples
is an ancient Mesopotamain planet name. The literal translation might be "a bunch of reeds", which may be a metaphor for rays around bright dots sources in a gloomy atmosphere (due to dust or humidity). The brighter the source, the better the rays become visible. The cause of the rays is are the muscles in the human eye that hold the lens; so the number of rays are seen differently by different observers.
