LU

^mulLU (𒀯𒇻) is used as single sign abbreviation for the name of 'The Hired Man' (^{mul lú}ḪUN.GA₂ = Aries, 'The Ram') in later astronomical and astrological texts. See (Kurtik h12) ^{mul lú}ḪUN.GA₂. The LU-sign also has the logographic reading UDU = 'sheep,' allowing for the word play on the homonymns LU and LÚ in the exegesis in the Uranology Group (see below).

Constellation and zodiac sign of the Hired Man (= Aries, Aries) in later astronomical and astrological texts. LU appears to be a homophonic replacement for LU₂ (from ^{mul lú}ḪUN.GA₂). It is also possible that it is a semantic replacement of the abbreviation ḪUN (see h11) by the graphically close sign LU; the symbol of the constellation in the second half of the first millennium BC was considered to be the ram, and LU could be read also as UDU = immeru "ram" hence allowing for the sign-pun in the Uranology Group Text D (see Beaulieu et al. 2018: 46).
