Thestias

Thestias is an IAU name for an exoplanet. Its host star is Pollux in the constellation of Gemini. Suggested by the country of Austalia, it follows the name theme NEWC 2015

Etymology and History

Thestias is the patronym of Leda and her sister Althaea, the daughters of Thestius. Leda was a Greek goddess, mother of Pollux and of his twin Castor, and of Helen and Clytemnestra. (Note 5) 

Mythology

IAU Working Group on Star Names

The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN in the 20xx NameExoWorlds Campaign (NEWC).
