Tejat

Tejat is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Arabic. It is the name of HIP 30343 (μ Gem, HR 2286) in constellation Gem.

Etymology and History

From the Arabic word tihyat, said to be the singular form of al-tahayi, an ind-A name of unknown meaning and disputed identification. In some sources, the plural al-tahayi is assigned to η, μ, and v Gem. As originally applied in recent times, η was Tejat Prior, and μ was Tejat Posterior.

The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN on 2017/02/01.
