Tarazed
From All Skies Encyclopaedia
Tarazed is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Persian. It is the name of HIP 97278 (γ Aql, HR 7525) in constellation Aql.
Etymology and History
Applied in recent times (with a misreading) from abbreviating the Persian asterism name shanin-i tarazu, "the Scale Beam", for α, β, and γ Aql. The Persian name, in turn, was a medieval translation of these stars' Arabic name al-mizan, "the Balance".
