Salm

Salm is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Arabic. It is the name of HIP115250 (τ Peg, HR 8880) in constellation Peg.

Etymology and History

Bayer (1603) mentions three names: Markab, Sagma and its corruption Salma. Allen (1899, 329) considers the correct form "Salm", a Leathern Bucket.
