Summary

part of the RSC of the ceiling of the tomb of Ramesses IX (photograph CC BY Juan Belmonte).

The first line marks the beginning of the first hour (end of twilight) of the night during the second fortnight of the III month of Akhet (Inundation).

The second and third rows (and hours of the night) are stars of Apd(u). The fourth hour is for the Thousands, aka the Pleiades, as RA dictates.

The first is damaged precisely where the part of the bird is mentioned (it is difficult to see either a head --most likely-- or a peak or throat) but in the next is obviously "its (actually his) rump" even if the Bird is not mentioned.

What it is clear in the second hour is the name of the constellation Apd and the determinative of the bird which is obviously more similar to a goose than to a falcon. Actually it is very similar to the one in the circular Zodiac of Denderah as Belmonte and Lull proposed. In other representations the determinative is, however, a flying Bird.

This does not mean that the falcon of Sethy I is not also the Bird. Meskhetyu (the Plough) could bee seen as a Bull Foreleg of as an Adze used in the Opening of the Mouth ceremony depending on the context. Egyptian symbolism is multi-factor.
