Kaveh is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Persian. It is the name of HIP 92895 (HD 175541) in constellation Serpens.

Etymology and History

Kaveh is one of the heroes of Shahnameh, the epic poem composed by Persian poet Ferdowsi between 977 and 1010 CE. He is a blacksmith who symbolizes justice and resistance against tyranny. Kaveh carries a banner called Derafsh-e Kaviani (Derafsh: “banner”; Kaviani: The flag belonging to the Kavih, the ancient Iranian heroes of the folklore).

Mythology

Kaveh is one of the heroes of the Šāhnāmeh, the epic poem composed by the Persian poet Ferdowsi between 977 and 1010 CE.

IAU Working Group on Star Names

The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN on 2019/12/17. The NameExoWorlds campaign approved the name Kaveh in 2019 for the star HD 175541 which has a known exoplanet.
