Shaomin

Shaomin is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Chinese. It is the name of HIP51624 (ρ Leo, HD 91316) in constellation Leo. Shaomin orignally forms a pair with Taimin, but the star with that (other) name had been named by the IAU already.

Etymology and History

Taimin太民 (or Damin大民) for o Leo and Shaomin少民 (ρ Leo) are the two southernmost stars of the Xuanyuan轩辕 constellation. They were used to star names in ancient China.

The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN on 2024/07/18.
