Gumala is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Malay. It is the name of HIP94645 (V5652 Sgr, HD 179949) in constellation Sgr.

Etymology and History

Gumala is a Malay word, which means a magic bezoar stone found in snakes, dragons, etc.
