Etymology and History

This name is a rare transliteration of Arabic الغفر al-ghafr (or "El-ġafr"), The Cover. This transliteration was used by Ideler (1809) but is uncommon today except in the Arabic Maghreb (northwest Africa). It is the name of the 15th lunar station (5 Oct).
