Iztok

Iztok is an IAU name for an exoplanet. Its host star is Irena in the constellation of Hercules. Suggested by the country of Slovenia, it follows the name theme Names of people and places associated with the novel Pod svobodnim soncem: povest davnih dedov (Under the Free Sun: A Story of the Ancient Grandfathers) written by Slovene writer Fran Saleški Finžgar (1871–1962).

Etymology and History

Iztok is a leading character in the novel Under the Free Sun: a Story of the Ancient Grandfathers by Slovene writer Fran Saleški Finžgar. Iztok is a freedom fighter for the Slavic people.

IAU Working Group on Star Names

The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN in the 20xx NameExoWorlds Campaign (NEWC).
