Summary

planet Venus next to the Pleiades; it is clearly visible in the photograph that rays and "horns" depend on the source's brightness (Venus has them in a gloomy atmosphere, the stars don't), photographs by Susanne M Hoffmann April 2020. The brighter the source, the better the rays become visible. The cause of the rays is are the muscles in the human eye that hold the lens; so the number of rays are seen differently by different observers.
