China (Chinese: 中国; pinyin: Zhōngguó, The Middle Kingdom). The term "China" has been used in English since the 16th century and probably originates from the Sanskrit word Cīna with unknown meaning.

Due to several dynasties of souvereigns within the territory of modern China, the mythological Yellow Emperor is used since the early 20th century as a symbol of an early unified country. Together with the state philosopher Cunfuzius (two millennia later), this creates the narrative of a millennia-long lasting traditions of shared culture within Mainland China. This cultural sphere extended to Japan, Korea and partially also Indonesia.
