Minchir

Minchir is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Arabic. It is the name of HIP42402 (σ Hya, HR 3418) in constellation Hya.

Etymology and History

Minchir appeared in Bode's 1801 Uranographia rooting in the Arabic term منخر الشجاع minkhar ash-shujāʽ "the nostril brave one" in Hydra.

IAU Working Group on Star Names

The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN on 2017/09/05.
