Bran

Bran is an IAU name for an exoplanet. Its host star is Tuiren in the constellation of CanesVenatici. Suggested by the country of Ireland, it follows the name theme Mythological dogs and associated characters from the story The Birth of Bran, an Irish legend associated with the tales of Fionn mac Cumhaill, as retold in Irish Fairy Tales by author James Stephens (1920).

Etymology and History

Tuiren's son Bran was a hound and cousin of the hunterwarrior Fionn mac Cumhaill of Irish legend.

IAU Working Group on Star Names

The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN in the 20xx NameExoWorlds Campaign (NEWC).
