The All Skies Encyclopaedia is a project set up as an initiative of the IAU Working Group on Star Names, thankfully supported by the Austrian Academy of Science with a research grant for the sub-project "Planetarium Babylonicum", with gentle support by the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Jena with the Michael Stifel Center Jena (Germany) by providing a virtual machine and the Research Center for History and Heritage of Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology of China (Hefei).

Predecessors

This project standalone research project but, of course, there had been earlier attempts of this type. In particular, the project "Ancient Skies" by two hobby astronomers, Doris Vickers and Rüdiger Schultz, in Vienna was one of the early attempts to produce such a collection.
