This template is used to [[WP:CITE|cite sources]] in Wikipedia. It is specifically for books. This template replaces the deprecated {{tl|book reference}}. When citing an article in a compilation or anthology, {{tl|cite journal}} or {{tl|cite encyclopedia}} work better. __NOTOC__

Copy a blank version to use. Remember to use the "|" (pipe) character between each parameter. Please delete any unused parameters to avoid clutter in the edit window.

No templates or magic words are necessary when using an [[ISBN]], [[OCLC]] number, or [[Digital object identifier|DOI]] as an identifier. Instead of using the <code>id</code> parameter in these instances, simply use the appropriate parameter. For instance, type <code>isbn=</code> followed by the number instead of <code>id=ISBN</code>. Templates are available for other identification number types to be used in the ID parameter ({{tl|ISSN}}, {{tl|LCCN}}, {{tl|LCC}}, etc.) if these aren't available.
