Rohini is an Indian name for [[Aldebaran]], used by the Indian Vedic tradition. Most of these names are roughly 3000 years old. They pre-date Hinduism but were taken over by it. |

Rohiṇī (रोहिणी), The Red One, is one of the nakshatras in the Vedic tradition. There the asterism consists of six stars (Hyades) with Aldebaran as the brightest one. "Rohini" literally means "red", which clearly refers to [[Aldebaran]] only. Thus, over time, it obviously became a name for the brightest star of the group, used by the Indian Vedic tradition. |
