A new "Greekness" was created in the empire of Alexander the Great by unifying originally Greek and Macedonian cultures with Egyptian, Babylonian and Persion cultural habits in order to create a new common identity in the huge empire.
This Hellenistic "Greekness" was considered rather appealing in ancient Rome, in particular when dealing with scientific topics. Hence, the Greco-Roman culture emerged as a mixture of the Hellenistic and native Roman cultural habits.
