Research Data Management
This encyclopaedia is technically a "mediawiki" that can be edited only by a limited group of people. You cannot create an account and you cannot apply for an account in this system. The right to edit is granted to the members of IAU Working Group Star Names and to the WG's research partners.
RDM: Backup Strategy
The research data and knowledge shared by researchers in this encyclopaedia is currently hosted on a server at the University of Jena, Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science (FMI), Germany.
The machine is weekly backuped to a special data space at the FMI. The backups contain the entire contents of the disc, including the system. The data storage of specially configured user programs is not known to us for the time being. The format of these backups is 'RAW', and these backups are viewed with programs from the virtualisation environment used (KVM/qemu).
As the system is hosted in Jena, it is administrated according to European laws of data security.
Responsibility
Currently, Susanne M Hoffmann administrats and maintains the system technically.
As the system is hosted at the University of Jena, in case of emergencies the technicians of the FMI can provide support.
